This study evaluated the effectiveness of two common antibiotic combinations, doxycycline and tetracycline, in patients with a history of severe urinary tract infections (UTIs), who were diagnosed with a severe bacterial infection (penicillin-resistantStaphylococcusspp). The study included 884 adult and 2 YORK type I and II patients with a history of severe UTIs, who received an antibiotic regimen of doxycycline (2g/day) and tetracycline (250 mg/day). The results indicated that patients with a history of severe UTIs and a high risk of developing UTI were more likely to have UTI than patients with no history of UTIs. Patients with a history of severe UTIs had a higher prevalence of penicillin-resistantspp infection (50.7% vs. 23.5%,P<.001), and lower prevalence of TMP (0.5% vs. 2.8%,<.001) and PN (0.5% vs. 1.4%,<.001) in the study. In contrast, no significant differences were observed in rates of penicillin-resistantspp infection, tetracycline-resistant (0.3% vs. 4.7%,<.05) and TMP-resistant (0.1% vs. 0.1%,<.05) bacteria among patients with a diagnosis of moderate-to-severe UTIs. However, the prevalence of TMP-resistantspp infection (0.1% vs.<.05) and penicillin-resistant<.05) among patients with a diagnosis of moderate-to-severe UTIs were significantly higher than those among patients with no history of UTIs. The results indicated that patients with a history of UTIs had a significantly higher prevalence of TMP-resistantspp infection, tetracycline-resistant (0.1% vs.The results indicated that patients with a history of UTIs had a significantly higher prevalence of penicillin-resistant

Doxycycline is used to treat bacterial infections. Doxycycline treats urinary tract infections, intestinal infections, respiratory infections, eye infections, sexually transmitted infections (like gonorrhoea and syphilis), gum infections, diseases (like periodontitis), and others. Besides this, Doxycycline also treats acne-like lesions caused by rosacea. However, it does not treat facial redness caused by rosacea.
Doxycycline being an antibiotic prevents the growth of bacterial cells (the bad ones!) by preventing the formation of the outer protein layer of bacteria (cell wall) responsible for bacteria's growth and multiplication. It is a broad-spectrum antibiotic, i.e. it acts against various bacteria. It is a bacteriostatic antibiotic, i.e. it stops bacteria growth but does not kill them.
Doxycycline should only be taken if advised by your doctor. It can be taken with or without food but should be consumed at a fixed time for the best results. You should complete the course of Doxycycline as your doctor prescribes for better results. Some common side effects of Doxycycline are nausea (feeling or being sick), vomiting, diarrhoea, etc. Please consult your doctor if these side effects become troublesome.
Doxycycline is pregnancy category D (high risk) medicines, so its use in pregnant and nursing mothers is not recommended. Use of Doxycycline during tooth development (last half of pregnancy, infancy, and childhood up to the age of 8 years) may cause teeth staining (yellow-grey-brown). Do not consume alcohol as it may cause excessive drowsiness when taken along with Doxycycline. Before using Doxycycline, tell your doctor if you ever had an allergy to Doxycycline, have kidney problems, liver problems, swollen food pipe (esophagitis) or muscle disease (myasthenia gravis). Please do not drink alcohol with Doxycycline as it may increase the unpleasant side effects like drowsiness and dizziness.
You should take Doxycycline preferably with a mealThe dose of Doxycycline should be taken at least 1 hour before your sexual activity so that you can identify the appropriate dose at once. Do not take a double dose to make up for the dose taken at the wrong time. Doxycycline can cause cell death (suicidal thoughts) so sexual activity should be avoided while taking this medicine. Before using Doxycycline, tell your doctor if you've ever had a rash, leg pain, high or low blood pressure, fast or irregular heartbeat, chest pain, sickle cell anaemia (an abnormality of red blood cells), mental or mood problems (like multiple myeloma or leukaemia), signs of tendon problems (osteoarthritis), difficulty in walking or standing, or back pain.
Doxycycline is contraindicated in children under 16 years of age as it is not suitable for pregnant and breastfeeding mothers. Do not use this medicine if you are allergic to any of the ingredients of this medicine or if you are taking doxycycline. This medicine may cause diarrhea so tell your doctor or pharmacist if you are taking medicines called leucovorin, cyclosporin, digoxin, anticoagulants (anticoagulants), HIV protease inhibitors (medicines that stop the growth of human immun----- protease inhibitors), antibiotics (eg, tetracycline, doxy-cycline), medicine to treat malaria (eg, fosamprenavir), antiviral (eg, ertapenem), or antifungal (eg, ketoconazole) medicines. This medicine may cause dizziness as you may feel drowsy or dizzy but you should not drive or operate dangerous machinery unless you are fully informed. If you experience any side effects such as lightheadedness, fainting, stomach pain, feelings of dizziness or tiredness (including drowsiness), headache, feeling unwell, feeling sick (vomiting), diarrhoea, get up quickly, you should consult a doctor.
Doxycycline may make your skin more sensitive to the sun. Make sure you get a good head of hair and good skin health. Limit your periods as you may be pregnant or breast-feeding soon after starting your antibiotic.
Side Effects:Doxycycline side effects in dogs, cats and horses include stomach upset, vomiting, reduced appetite, and diarrhea. Giving doxycycline with food may help alleviate these GI effects. Reddening or sunburn can occur to hairless skin around nose, eyelids and ears when exposed to sunlight.Warnings:Do not use in animals allergic to doxycycline or other tetracycline drugs. Use with caution in animals with liver problems. Milk or other dairy products, calcium, oral antacids, iron, or bismuth subsalicylate must be separated from doxycycline doses by at least 2 hours. Overdoses can be very dangerous. Keep out of reach of children and animals. Always follow the dosage instructions provided by your veterinarian. If you have difficulty giving the medication, contact your veterinarian. If you miss a dose, give it as soon as you remember. If it is almost time for the next dose, skip the one you missed and go back to the regular schedule. Do not give two doses at once. This medication should only be given to the pet for whom it was prescribed.
Side effects associated with this use include:Facial flushing, headache, tiredness, vomiting, heart rate increase, and increased heart rate can occur.Use with caution in pregnant and nursing animals. This medication is excreted in breast milk. If a new dose is accidentally received, consult with the veterinarian immediately.
Use of this medication for other than the recommended dose is not recommended.
Use with caution when pregnant and/or pregnant women. Doxycycline can bind to estrogen receptors in dogs and increase the risk of bone metastasis. If your pet is pregnant or planning to become pregnant, contact your veterinarian. Avoid exposure to sunlight and use a sunscreen or hat when outside. Use a hat or sun protection sunbed to avoid sunburn. Doxycycline does not protect your pet from sunlight. If you notice any side effects, contact your veterinarian immediately.

You should take Doxycycline cautiously during breastfeeding as do not take this medicine for a longer time than your doctor has expressed approval.Doxycycline is commonly used to treat a wide range of bacterial infections, including those caused by inhalants and nasal sprays. Other uses of Doxycycline include the treatment of acne, urinary tract infections (UTIs), respiratory infections, eye infections, tooth infections, fosc RG RG, and periodontal diseases. It is also used to treat malaria in countries where Doxycycline is not available. It is not known if Doxycycline is safe and effective in the treatment of certain types of periodontitis, such as gingivostomatitis. Doxycycline is not recommended for use in children due to potential problems in growing children. Doxycycline is not recommended for use in women as it has not been found to be beneficial in the treatment of childbearing years. Before taking Doxycycline, inform your doctor if you have any history of liver problems. Doxycycline may cause drowsiness. Please consult your doctor if you experience any side effects.

Treatment of Mycoplasma genitalium. Can be used alone or in combination with other antibacterial agents.Treatment of Infections of the Penis.
Tetracyclines are bacteriostatic agents. They block protein synthesis in bacteria, thereby killing the bacteria.
Side effects of tetracycline include:
In clinical trials, more than 1,700 patients (1.2%) were successfully treated. Tetracyclines are most widely used to treat bacterial infections in the genital area. The use of tetracyclines in the treatment of the disease is not recommended. Patients should be advised against exposure to doxycycline by the healthcare provider, as doxycycline is known to be carcinogenic. Tetracyclines should not be used as first-line treatment for infections.
Tetracyclines are usually well tolerated, and side effects are usually mild. Most side effects resolve on their own after a few months, but it is important to note that they may persist even after the full course of therapy is completed. If the side effects are severe or persistent, it is important to seek immediate medical attention. Treatment for the treatment of bacterial infections is usually completed with a review of the patient’s medical history and current medications, as well as with a discussion of the possible side effects. Treatment should only be initiated by a healthcare professional.
Side effects are more common in patients with a history of certain conditions. Patients with a history of a condition that can cause drowsiness or confusion should discuss it with a healthcare professional before treatment. In case you have any of these conditions, you should not drive or operate machinery and the use of tetracyclines is contraindicated (see section 5).
Tetracyclines are not recommended in patients with a history of hypersensitivity to tetracyclines or to any of the other ingredients in doxycycline.
